Daily data archive
Sargassum risk at snorkeling destinations
SnorkelForecast archives NOAA and University of South Florida's experimental Sargassum Inundation Risk (SIR) against the Caribbean and Florida destinations we monitor. The source classifies coastal risk as low, warning, medium or high.
This is not a precise prediction that Sargassum will land on a particular beach. NOAA says actual beaching depends on local currents, tide, wind and waves. We keep this metric separate from the Snorkel Score.

The collector has not stored its first NOAA SIR snapshot yet. It runs outside public requests and will populate this page after deployment.
How the archive works
NOAA publishes daily SIR coastline geometry derived from satellite-detected floating algae. SnorkelForecast reads the official KMZ, preserves the report date and source URL, and assigns the nearest recognised coastline risk to each monitored destination. If no recognised mapped risk is within 75 km, the destination is stored as no data rather than guessed.
SIR is an experimental research product. It describes coastal inundation potential, not water safety, reef health, smell, beach cleanup or the exact amount of seaweed at a resort.
